When we are trying to create an outcome, it can’t come fast enough.
We have thoughts like, “this is taking too long,” or “I should be further along.”
This happens whether our goal is to scale our business, lose the weight, get the degree or learn the language.
It’s fascinating to watch my clients and students as they gradually start seeing results and then suddenly their business takes off, or suddenly they drop 10 pounds or suddenly they are running an 8 minute mile.
To them, it feels like all of a sudden things just start clicking and working.
But here is what is happening…
It’s the compound effect of “effort and energy” over time. Doing a little more every day…no matter what, to move the needle.
When we have a goal in mind, and all we see is that outcome that we want to create, we lose sight of the journey. We don’t even notice the quiet, and unassuming, business as usual changes that are occurring, as we create the result.
When I was learning to run, in the beginning it was only 2 minutes, then 10 minutes and then suddenly, I was running a 5K, then 10K, then 13K.
When I was learning to golf, hubs and I would go to the driving range every night after work. At first, I would swing and miss, swing and miss, swing and miss.
Then over time, and with effort, I would swing and nick, swing and clip, swing and top the ball. Then suddenly, I was hitting the ball!
But it wasn’t suddenly at all. I was becoming a golfer all along. I was becoming a runner all along.
I love seeing things happen for my clients and students that appear to be all of a sudden. It feels exciting for them and it’s energizing.
But I know it was gradually, gradually and then suddenly.
